According to a new report, Sledgehammer Games will be back in the driver’s seat in 2025 with Advanced Warfare 2 on the way.

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare 2, a follow-up to the 2014 title by Sledgehammer Games, could be in the works, a new report states.

Advanced Warfare was Sledgehammer’s first time acting as the lead on the Call of Duty franchise, and response to the game was mixed.

Set in 2054, the game was among the first to abandon traditional boots-on-the-ground gameplay and added features like jetpacks and other futuristic technology such as Exoskeletons to its multiplayer action.

Although many fans voiced their distaste for Advanced Warfare initially, opinion on the game does appear to have become more positive over the years.

And now it’s looking like Advanced Warfare 2 could be in our not-so-distant future.

Sledgehammer Games Developing Advanced Warfare 2, Leak Claims

A new report from RalphsValve via WhatIfGaming claims that Advanced Warfare is indeed in the works, and is scheduled for 2025.

If true, this puts the title in the schedule only a year after the release of Treyarch’s 2024 Call of Duty. It seems that while Modern Warfare 2 will run for 2 years, Activision might be returning to an annual release after that.

“Sledgehammer’s sequel to Advanced Warfare has been slated to release for 2025, only a year after Treyarch’s premium title.” the new article by WhatIfGaming claims.

Activision has yet to comment on the rumor, and will likely not respond. We’ll update this article as the story progresses.

It’s worth noting that Ralph’s reliability as a leaker has been mixed thus far. We’d take this report with a heavy pinch of salt for the time being, however TheGhostOfHope has been able to corroborate the rumor.

Meanwhile, Hope also revealed that MW2 may be getting paid DLC with classic maps from the entire COD franchise. It seems that Activision definitely thinks that Infinity Ward’s title is capable of holding player attention for 2 years, even if Treyarch can’t.

Update (October 5): Charlie Intel has heard that Advanced Warfare 2 isn’t currently in development at Sledgehammer, despite the new rumors.
